We have recently finished this block paving driveway in Redbrook, Barnsley, replacing an old, tired tarmac driveway with a brand new, modern finish that totally transforms the frontage of this property.
The old tarmac driveway had seen better days. It had signs of wear, patching, and uneven sections. The customer wanted a product that would last longer, be easy to clean, and fit in with the style of the house. Block paving was an obvious choice.

Project Details
We started with lifting and removing the existing tarmac driveway to clear everything away to give us a chance to rebuild from scratch.
With the area clear, we then dug to the appropriate depth and put in a robust MOT type 1 base course, compacting this thoroughly to ensure a strong base that would not sink or develop dips in the future.
The sharp sand bedding course was then put in, carefully leveled to ensure a smooth finish to lay our blocks.
The style was chosen by the customer to be a contemporary style grey block paving in a tight interlocking style to ensure both strength and visual appeal. To really make this driveway special and give it that extra edge, we added a contrasting dark block border to really define the area.
The finishing touches are:
- Careful cutting to edges and borders
- Compact the entire area with a wacker plate
- Brush kiln dried sand into all joints for stability
